BBC Studios to cut 300 staff as hit shows move to private sector
This article says the BBC is prepared to make 300 of its staff redundant, this across all sectors in the BBC and makes up over 10% of its 2000 strong workforce. The aim for this was to save money, around £million to set up a new "commercially" owned subsidiary of the BBC called BBC Studios. This will be separate from the BBC and will run commercial breaks. Shows which look to move over to BBC studios include Songs of praise and Holby city.
I think jonb losses and redundancies in the media will become all to common as just last week even the Daily mail had to cut 3-400 jobs including some journalists. This is because news is free and people aren't willing to pay for news, most people won't pay for newspaper even though they're just 50-60p. The convenience of new and digital media seems to be taking so many jobs recently and it will continue to do so, however it is giving some of them back, there will be jobs in the foreseeable future in areas like advertising and online marketing so people won't have to worry too much about redundancies too much.
